TORRE HITS BACK AT MAYOR BASTE'S 'ATTACK DOG' REMARK: LOOK AT YOUR FATHER'S PNP CHIEF

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III on Wednesday, June 4, dismissed Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte's accusation that his promotion was politically motivated and unmerited, saying the mayor should reflect on how his own father appointed the first PNP chief under his administration.

"I just respect his decision and I respect his opinion. And rewind-rewind lang nang kaunti sa termino naman ng tatay niya kung sino ang unang Chief PNP, okay. So, ano ang ranggo ng unang Chief PNP at ano ang ranggo ko bago ako naging Chief PNP," Torre said in a press briefing in Malacañang.

He pointed out that the first police chief under former president Rodrigo Duterte was promoted from a one-star general to a four-star general, implying that such appointments are not unprecedented.

"Seriously speaking, it goes back to him, okay. The first Chief PNP of his father is a one-star na naging automatic four-star. Did he ask that? Did he question that?" Torre added.

Mayor Duterte had earlier criticized Torre’s promotion, claiming he skipped three ranks and was appointed merely for being an "attack dog" of the current administration.

"I would admire this person if he did everything with due process," Duterte said, referring to Torre's role in the cases involving Kingdom of Jesus Christ pastor Apollo Quiboloy and former president Duterte.
